Yelm is a city incorporated on December 8, 1924. This city in Thurston County became the 10th fastest growing city in Washington. In terms of population, Yelm had a total population of 6,848 residents at the 2010 census.

It is composed of an elongated cycling and walking trail that has been formed at the previous location of the Burlington Northern Railroad. The trail runs in the same direction as the State Route 507 and converges with another trail called the Chehalis Western Trail.
Spanning a total area of 14.5 miles, the Yelm-Tenino Trail is common route for bicyclists that are participants of the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic. This annual event use this route as cyclists traverse Yelm and Tenino.
