Two years later, Job Carr who was a veteran and a land surveyor, built his home that also served as Tacoma's first post office in the area. Carr sold most of his land to Morton M. McCarver, who then filed for a plat on December 3, 1869 with the name Tacoma City in homage to the indigenous name of the Mountain Rainier.
