The City of Orting is part of the Pierce County. It was officially recognized as a city on April 22, 1889 and is considered as one of the oldest cities in the State of Washington.
The earliest recorded claims for land in the area were made by Daniel Lane, Daniel Varner, Thomas Headley, and William Henry Whitesell in 1854.
