In 2010, the United States Census Bureau recorded a total population of 92,411. Eight years later, the estimated population in Kent is now 129,618. This growth can be attributed to the annexations and the inevitable population growth.
Back in the spring of 1835, Samuel Russell became the first settler in the area. Upon his arrival, he claimed a plot of land. Several others also followed him and did the same.
The area was originally called "White River", then "Titusville" after an early settler named James Henry Titus, until it was renamed Kent after the County of Kent in England, the main hops-producing region in England.
During the late 1870s, the town's major source of income was hops production. The hops were shipped through river or via rail. During the post-hops era, Kent became home to the famous Carnation Milk Company, which was previously known as Elbridge A. Stuart's Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company.
By the 1920s, Kent also grew just like any other farming communities; it was then labeled as "Lettuce Capital of the World".
Present-day Kent has three divisions: West Hill, Valley, and East Hill. The West Hill is a mixture of residential and commercial lots along the Interstate 5; the Valley is primarily made up of industrial and commercial establishments; the East Hill is primarily residential and retail. You can surely do many things in this beautiful city.
Kent is home to several companies like Amazon, Seattle Bicycle Supply, REI, The Boeing Company, the Oberto Sausage Company, and a whole lot more.
