The city of Fife is located in Pierce County and is considered as an eastern suburb of Tacoma. The increased influx of commuters from Puyallup and Tacoma became the reason why Fife felt the need to incorporate itself as an independent community instead of being just a transitional area between Interstate 5 and State Route 167. On February 11, 1957, Fife was officially recognized as a city.
As per the United States Census Bureau, Fife has a land area of 5.83 square miles in total. Approximately 5.83 square miles of it is land while the remaining 0.14 square mile is water. About 50.4 percent of the population is male whereas 49.6 percent is female.
There are two considered possibilities as to where the name of the city originated from. First, the city may have been named after William J. Fife who was once a chief of Washington National Guard and a distinguished Tacoma lawyer. Another possibility is that the town was named after a remarkable county in Scotland also known as Fife.
The city is mainly comprised of businesses like car dealerships, industrial and warehousing facilities, motels, restaurants, and diverse other shops. There is also a plethora of freight forwarding companies in the city due to the fact that Fife is close to the Port of Tacoma, Interstate 5, and Highway 167.
In terms of education, the school district of Fife serves not just the city itself but other areas like Edgewood, Federal Way, and Milton. The Fife High School is the only high school in the area. The student to teacher ratio is 20 pupils per teacher.
