Federal Way Tidbits
Federal Way is located in the southwest corner of King County; it is bordered by Pierce County to south and Puget Sound to the west. It was named after the highway that passes through it.
The area used to be seasonal campgrounds by Native Americans who resided along the White and Green Rivers. Plenty of natives came to the shore to greet Captain George Vancouver, when he surveyed the area in 1792. During the early days, Federal Way was considered rural. However, as years passed by, the city has gone through massive growth and development.
By the early 1850s, there was a survey for a road to be built between Fort Bellingham and Fort Steilacoom. Since this road was made for military use, it was named as Military Road. The road was finished in 1860, connecting Pierce County to Seattle.
In 1871, the first homesteader, Sam Stone, migrated into the general Federal Way area. He established his homestead named as Stone’s Landing, but it is now known as Redondo. Other settlers started moving nearby then built the first school near Star Lake in 1880.
It was in 1955 when Federal Shopping Way opened to enthusiastic customers. The mall also became home to the collection of old cabins and historical artifacts known as Old Line Historic Park and amusement rides of Santafair, the European reproductions of Old World Square.
The biggest amusement park in the region, Wild Waves Theme & Water Park, opened in 1977. It is the only permanent entertainment park in the Seattle area, but it was specifically located on the southern region of Federal Way. In December 2000, Six Flags bought Wild Waves. However in April 2007, they sold it to Parc Management LLC of Jacksonville, Florida.
As Federal Way continues to grow and expand, it has developed Dumas Bay Centre where you can easily plan for a training session or a board meeting. It has an accommodating service, flexible meeting rooms, and absolutely scenic location. They have seven meeting rooms that are priced affordably.
Dumas Bay Centre is known for serving delectable meals for lunch and dinner. There is also a free WiFi access throughout the building. It offers open seating in its 234 seat house assuring you that there is no bad seat in the house.
