Fircrest is a city that is found on the northwestern part of Pierce County, Washington. Positioned 2.8 miles from Puget Sound, this tiny city has its border on the northern and eastern part close to Tacoma City. On the southern and western portion of Fircrest is where University Place lies. The elevation of Fircrest is at 276 feet.
The latest population of the city is 6,940, and Fircrest has become the 110th biggest city in Washington. Not only that, Fircrest ranks as the 3965th biggest city in the United States. It is presently growing at 0.95 percent yearly, and the population went up to 6.82 percent considering that the last census survey was still in 2010.
Tacoma City in the western part of the Washington rose to fame by the start of the century. A bunch of financiers from California bought a tiny piece of property located in the west of Tacoma in 1907. They wanted to develop a fancy subdivision, and called it Regents Park. The planned subdivision included delicate road curves, sidewalks, pathways, and a sewer system.
Aside from the curves and artistically designed sidewalks, streets, and sewers, Regents Park provided a quiet type of living and yet has that firm sense of being a community. The very first store was built in 1919 on Farallone Avenue. In 1923, Fircrest Golf Club was incorporated.
Meanwhile, fir trees grew by the hundreds, and they were all over the schoolyards, parks, and residences giving the appearance of a luxurious woodland. Finally, in 1925, the 306 citizens in the area agreed to have their small town incorporated and gave it a new name, the Town of Fircrest.
After the incorporation, everything changed. The community suddenly became invigorated, and it resulted to a more stabilized finances and control so much so that Fircrest was able to establish and repair the municipal services and its infrastructures.
Throughout the years, Fircrest added other properties to further expand its reach. By the year 1990, the town progressed, not just in its population, but also in its size. Today, the small town slowly became the city that we all know now as Fircrest.
In the past years, the city continued to protect their sense of community. Even through the Great Depression period, Fircrest gave milk and hot meals to the less fortunate school kids. In 1949, a 150-acre of fire endangered the city, fortunately, no homes in Fircrest were damaged by the fire.
The year 1960 showed how the city asserted on the ownership of its park. In fact, Fircrest built a community building. The swimming pool followed, and then, the dedication of the Masko Park. Fircrest stood its ground of having resources and facilities for recreational enjoyment that no other city can. They started the Annual Strawberry Feed in 1976.
In 1988, there was a change of its form of government, which became Council-Manager. In 1997, the Public Safety building was completed. In 1999, the new City Hall building was constructed. Up to the present time, Fircrest remains to continue its dream of being a residential community. Fircrest has also maintained its promise to provide quality living and wonderful recreational facilities to its residents.
